Alchemy assisted the President of the MSS business division with the realignment and design of the division's structure. The desired outcomes included achieving greater efficiency and business results, improving the quality and delivery of their work, meeting and exceeding their business goals objectives, and to use the newly aligned structure to bring more customer-focus to the division.

The President and key leadership realized that an effective structure demanded input and participation across the organization. The approach was comprehensive, included committed leadership, and enabled people from across the division to participate. A business leaders conference was hosted to gain buy–in throughout the organization, a cross functional design team was appointed to consider multiple models, concerns and ideas provided by the division, and regular and frequent communication (using web casts, focus groups and town meetings) kept all employees updated as to the process, the outcomes, and the design. The multi–layered effort defined criteria for success and the measures to go with it. Role definition and customized structure to best support the criteria for the division – matrix in style; put engineering front and center with the customer (and customer support)

This project resulted in a customized structure that is matrix–like in style, defines the roles as needed with a significant focus on serving the client. It included elements of career pathing and succession planning, and increased accountability which was designed and informed by feedback from division's employees.
