At a recent workshop provided by Sabina Spencer in the United Kingdom (http://books.global-investor.com/books/141085/Sabina-A.-Spencer/The-Heart-of-Leadership/), I learned there are three levels of change:
Developmental – moving from A to Aa – deepening knowledge, not much occurs, and you develop skills, knowledge or other parts of yourself in the process
Transitional – moving from A to B – going from a known experience (A) to another known experience (B) – often happens when you are moving jobs within the same firm – unsettling but the transition can happen rather quickly
Transformational – moving from A to ? – going from what you know (geography, language, company, team) into what is unknown (completely new geography, language, company, team) and is uncomfortable – you literally change form in this process.
Are you in a state of change? What kind is it? How did you move and what was it like? Inquiring minds want to know.

The Power of Graphics, Drawing It & Doing THIS with others
Alchemy (www.link2alchemy.com) hosted its first graphic recording class in London this week. What happens when you bring six people from various places around the world to explore, expand and practice in visual language? (www.flickr.com/photos/alchemists)
I believe and have experience with this idea -- only through practice do we truly know ourselves. In the art and practice of graphic capture and graphic recording individually practice definitely makes better. When graphic capture is done within a group, practice almost makes perfect! What happens?
Shared Learning – we share insights and learn more together
Best Practice – as a group we build what is best for us, we build our own ways of knowing and making meaning
Create Community – we create a group with common interests, who mostly like each other. We connect, share pieces of ourselves, converse some more and plan together to do this again – its fun!
In the course of 1 1/2 days our group spoke about so much more than just drawing and business. We spoke about our consumptive nature, the banking crisis, climate change, gardens, neighborhoods, chemical companies, light bulbs and lizards. These side conversations were just as important to our work as they informed our design work, contributed to our overall sense of learning, and inspired and motivated great thinking. Thanks to Sabine, Jeraldene, Margaret, Jorge, Octavio and Valerie!
