Alchemy and Transformation

Over the summer, Alchemy underwent it’s own alchemical transformation. Longtime creative activator and business partner, Patti Dobrowolski, stepped away from the firm for greener and golden horizons with our blessing and well wishes. I would be lying if I said this was an easy process.  For the last 71/2 years, three business partners have plotted, schemed, designed and delivered business performance, results and exceptional work for our clients.  (And, to all of you we are so grateful for the opportunities and fun).  In business we create relationships and structures – healthy and some un – so we are comfortable and steady – safe and secure.

Alchemical transformation is all about changing things up to get closer to “transforming lead into gold.”  And even for a change junkie like me – it has not been easy on so many levels. But that too is change, right?  Real transformational change pushes you into places you fear, areas you have not visited in way too long, and mindsets that frankly need some shaking up.

As part of my own process in this change, I went back to Alchemy’s roots. Not those in the 21st century, but those dating back to the ancient Egyptians, who explored, defined, experienced the shift from lead to gold and passed this legacy and its secret onto others throughout generations.  I asked myself, what can I learn from the roots of this name, and those who came before me? What can I apply to my clients, my friends and peers to ease the path and share insights? What do these insights hold for the 21st century?

I have delved into the pictures and teachings of the Hermetic Cabinet, explored the rubric and lessons etched in the Emerald Tablet, and wondered (in awe) at the profound consistencies between what we have today and a past so rich and deep in powerful questions, insights and pictures, it is as if time has not passed at all.

Between now and the end of the year, I will share some of my readings, insights and reflections on alchemy and its application in the world of work.  You can be sure to see pictures and drawings, as the alchemists of old layered their secrets and lessons into drawings that used metaphor to reveal those same secrets only to those who wanted to see them. For starters – wiki “alchemy” and, see what comes up.  You too will be surprised!
